Podcast Episode 22: Singleness Q&A

Date: November 7, 2019

Questions

In our culture today, there is generally condescension or shame attached to singleness, or not being married or have never been married, however 1 Corinthians 7 seems to imply that singleness is a gift from God. Is that correct? (10:25)

How, then, can we apply that within our church culture? Can you talk more about creating a church culture where we treat singleness as a gift of God, rather than a problem that needs fixed? I think a lot of single persons are just trying to fit in the right boxes as Shaun said a couple weeks ago, almost to the point where marriage is an idol, rather than a gift. How do we encourage single persons to use their singleness as this gift it’s supposed to be? (10:45)

How do I deal with parents/family members who constantly ask when I’m getting married? (30:25)

As an unmarried young adult, how can I find contentment in this stage in life? (32:25)

Is it okay if I don’t want to get married? Josh said there are good and bad reasons for not wanting to get married, can he give examples of what those might be? (35:55)

Is it ok for me to focus on finishing college or even starting my career before looking for someone to marry? (38:05)

In Titus 1, Paul lays out the qualifications of elders to be the husband of one wife and his children are believers. Can a single man or a married man with no children be an elder in the church? (41:25)
