Book Discussion: 

  1. Why this book?
    1. A group of EPC pastors meet here at Gateway monthly and this is the book we’ve been discussing.
    2. My Life Group just finished it as well.
    3. Based on Isaiah 42:3 – a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench
  1. Who is this book for?
    1. Anyone who is weary, feeling defeated, in need of encouragement.
    2. It is an older book, though it’s not terribly difficult to understand, just be prepared for some language you’re not as familiar with.
  1. What surprised you most?
    1. (Josh) – The amount of biblical encouragement — true encouragement — that could be crammed into one book.
      1. He (God) will not only not break nor quench, but he will cherish those whom he so deals. – pg 7
      2. There is more mercy in Christ than sin in us. – pg 13
      3. Let us not be cruel to ourselves when CHrist is thus gracious. – 54

  1. What’s a key takeaway you want everyone to know?
    1. (Josh) – Read an old book. Let the brothers and sisters who came before us — whose shoulders we stand upon — be an encouragement to your soul and bring refreshment to your spirit.
